Join the Red Wing Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Goodhue County Historical Society in celebrating Oakwood Cemetery’s inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places on Saturday, May 19. A tour of the oldest part of Oakwood Cemetery will be offered at 10 AM. Learn about the cemetery’s establishment, some of the early residents who were laid to rest there, the meaning of gravestone symbolism, and funeral practices in the Victorian Era. The Red Wing HPC will be hosting an open house of the chapel from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM and a cemetery history presentation by Daniel Hosington at 12:00 PM.
