Visit Mandy’s Coffee & Café (419 West 3rd Street) on Thursday, October 6 at 1PM and watch as Sundance Solar and Xcel Energy manufacture energy for Mandy’s Coffee & Café! They’re going LIVE with solar power…a 10.08kW solar array on the rooftop…watch them throw the switch and see the monitor register the energy being manufactured by the sun. Mandy's solar array was designed and constructed by Sundance Energy Solutions of Hastings, MN. Mandy's will be the first coffee shop in MN to have solar as a primary source of electricity for its operation. Mandy's utilized Xcel Energy's Solar REWARDs program as an incentive and expects to see a payback in 4-5 years. The solar panels and equipment are all made in the USA and have 12-30 year warranties, no moving parts and little maintenance. Along with saving money, Mandy's will also lower its carbon footprint. Over the life of the system, 269 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) will be eliminated equivalent to: planting 6,268 trees; driving reduced by 538,000 auto miles, or 27,438 gallons of gasoline; recycling 850 tons of waste instead of sending it to landfills; displacing CO2 emissions from the annual electric use of 30 homes; 262,119 pounds (131.1 tons) of coal burned.
