    Event Description:
Lunch & Learn—Possible Changes in MN Auto Laws—November 10—Noon-1PM—Via Zoom
Scott Lambert, President of the Minnesota Automobile Association, will host a virtual program for Chamber of Commerce members discussing the California Car Initiative. Minnesota is considering adopting California's Low-Emission Vehicle (LEV) and Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandates, which will require most vehicles statewide to meet new emission standards, beginning in 2024. This would align Minnesota’s emissions standards with those set by the California Air Board. The Federal Clean Air Act of 1970 authorized California to regulate its own air quality issues. California is the only state that can reform federal emissions standards, but the federal law allows other states to adopt California as their own. To date, 13 other states have followed California. This could affect dealers that border other states more than others, since the policy may incent individuals to buy cars in other states. The legislation may also contain a regulatory effort to stock a predetermined number of electric vehicles on car dealer lots.

Scott will dive into the consequences of the policy, and how it would affect prices and availability for those looking to purchase a new car in Minnesota. Scott's program will also touch on how local businesses and individuals can weigh in. You can learn more about the policy by visiting https://driveawaycacars.org/ prior to the program.
