Name: Hiawatha Valley Family Beyond the Yellow Ribbon CelebrationDate: November 5, 2011Time: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM CDTEvent Description:Please join us on November 5th at the National Guard Armory(885 E. 7th Street) to Celebrate Red Wing as a new official Yellow Ribbon Community! The Open House runs from 1--6PM, with a program at 2 PM. State officials including high ranking National Guard personnel will conduct the ceremony open to the general public. Several cities in Minnesota have been proclaimed Yellow Ribbon communities and as of November 5th, Red Wing will join that group! Even though Red Wing has the title, the service area extends for a 30 mile radius around Red Wing including Pierce County, parts of Wabasha, and Dakota and all of Goodhue County. Lance Garrick, Red Wing, retired Army veteran, is the President of the newly formed non-profit corporation. His wife Renee is the Secretary, David Birkenmayer is the Vice President and Jerry Borgen is Treasurer. The unit is seeking volunteers and has nearly 30 already on board. This non-profit organization is designed to help veterans and their families who are returning from a tour overseas, but any veteran that needs help will be included. Our motto is “Making our veterans feel at home, at home” Lance said.
