The Friends of American Ski Jumping is dedicated to preserving the history of the wonderful sport of ski jumping.   Red Wing is the birthplace of ski jumping in America and the home of the Hall of Fame exhibits in the hotel, Goodhue County Court House, the Goodhue County Historical Society  and Bev's Cafe. Visit the virtual Hall of Fame of American Ski Jumping at www.americanskijumping.com.

Red Wing is designated as the Birthplace of American Ski Jumping for several reasons ...  it had one of the first organized ski jumping tournaments on the north side of Memorial Bluff near McSorley Street, they made the first rules for official ski jumping tournaments, and Aurora had the premier jumpers, known as the All-Americans in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Red Wing had two National Ski Jumping Tournaments at Charlson Hill on Spring Creek Road in 1928 and again in 1936.  The Red Wing Aurora Ski Club was disbanded in 1952 when the scaffold blew down and two Downhill resorts opened.

Members of the 2010 class of inductees include: Nick Alexander, Bill Demong, Stan DuRose, Buck Erickson, Peter Frenette, Jessica Jerome, Dave Hicks, Alfred Ohrn, Larry Stone, Sig Malvik, and Dick Rahoi. Fred Johnson, former resident of Red Wing, Author and Historian has written a book “Sky Crashers” about the history of Red Wing's Aurora Ski Club. Fred will be one of the speakers and will have copies of his book available. Wally Wakefield, lifetime member of the St. Paul Ski Club is the chair of the selection committee and will also be one of the speakers.
