The Red Wing Family YMCA is proud to be partnering with the Red Wing Shoe Company to hold the first ever “4th Street Downhill Dash” on Thursday, June 20. Organized as a celebration to kick off the summer season, to encourage people of all ages to become active and as a fundraiser for Camp Pepin, the 4th Street Downhill Dash is a series of mile-long walks/runs that begin at Jefferson School and end at Central Park.
Seven Waves (races) will be offered and are open to all ages and fitness levels:
Wave 1 - Red Wing Shoe Brands @ 4:30 pm - For everyone who owns a pair of Red Wing Shoes, Vasque, Irish Setters or WORX. Lace them up and walk/jog together!
Wave 2 - Corporate Challenge @ 5:00 pm -The Corporate Challenge is designed to get employees of all types moving. Any corporation, profit or non-profit, may participate (with a minimum of 5 employees FT or PT). All full and part-time employees are eligible and encouraged to join.
Wave 3 - Competitive Race @ 5:30 pm - For competitive runners of all ages.
Wave 4 - Friends and Family @ 5:55 pm - For runners of all abilities and ages.
Wave 5 - Red Wing Area Seniors @ 6:20 pm - For walkers, joggers, or runners age 55 and older.
Wave 6 - I Can Do It! @ 6:45 pm- For people who have had a hip or knee replacement, or have overcome a serious illness like cancer, heart attack, diabetes, etc.
Wave 7 – Camp Pepin @ 7:10 pm – For past campers and staff of YMCA Camp Pepin.
Registration is required and may be done on-line at www.redwingymca.org/dash or in-person at the Y. The cost is $10.00 per person, $25 for a family.
Following the Downhill Dash the band FREE ENERGY will be performing in the Central Park Bandshell at 8 PM. Admission to the concert is free to Downhill Dash participants. For more information, contact www.redwingymca.org/dash.
