Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Event—March 30—Noon—5PM
This is the first event like this Red Wing has ever held and the goal is to allow our community to say two simple words many of these veterans have never heard…”Welcome Home!.” The Red Wing Elks Lodge #845, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon-Hiawatha Valley Family, VFW, Redman, American Legion Leo C. Peterson, Post 54 and the All Service Color Guard are hosting a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Event, March 30, from Noon to 5PM at the Red Wing Elks Lodge (306 West 4th Street). This commemoration includes the nine million Americans who served on active duty in the United States Armed Forces at any time during the period from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 and makes no distinction between those who served in-country, in-theatre, or were stationed elsewhere during those 20 years, as all answered the call of duty.
Mayor Sean Dowse will be reading a proclamation at the Red Wing City Council meeting on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 6PM, and everyone is encouraged to attend and show your support, declaring March 30 as Welcome Home Day in the City of Red Wing. The group is also looking for donations or financial assistance for this community event. Tax-exempt donations for this event can be made to the Hiawatha Valley Family-Beyond the Yellow Ribbon (FEIN 45-3360264) or items can be dropped off at the Elks Lodge. Please make sure you have labeled your items, so they know which businesses have contributed.
Schedule For the Day (Subject to Change):
Noon—Doors open, food is served throughout the day
2PM—Brief Program recognizing Vietnam Veterans, including Mayor Dowse, Colonel Richard Johnson, Vietnam Vet Darrell Duden and others
4:30PM—Door Prize Drawings
5PM—21 Gun Salute and Color Guard Ceremony with Taps
The Chamber Staff and Ambassadors are assisting at this event.
The entire community is invited, and especially Vietnam Veterans and their families. There will be paraphernalia to view, delicious food, and door prizes for Vets. Please show your support and attend and/or donate to this special event.
