A Gathering of River Rats...
Join us for a private tour of the Red Wing Marine Museum followed by a boat ride and river tour aboard the SS Minnow (or a similar vessel) for socializing and networking! This is a very limited engagement, completely FREE and an RSVP is requested. Meet at the Red Wing Marine Museum (935 Levee Road), Wednesday, August 30th at 5:15PM. The event will conclude after the boat ride, approximately 7:15PM.
The Red Wing Marine Museum organization was established in 2011 when Mike Wilson purchased the Red Wing Marine Engine collection from Harry Munson. In October 2013, the doors to the museum, located at 935 Levee Road, were opened to the public in one of Red Wing’s historic limestone buildings. Even though the original manufacturing plant is long gone, the museum occupies an equally historic structure very close to the site where Red Wing-made boats and motors once were launched via a ramp directly into the Mississippi River. The company that started in 1903 as the Red Wing Boat Manufacturing Co. built boats and motors that were sold to governments and boating enthusiasts all over the world. The history is recorded in documents on file at the Goodhue County Historical Society, at the Red Wing Marine Museum and on its website. Boat and motor manufacturing was a likely venture for the growing river town of Red Wing at the turn of the 20th century. Learn how the history of Red Wing’s portion of the mighty Mississippi has evolved over time!
