Job Description

Job
Summary: Develop
and implement policies and plans to accomplish the strategic
objectives set by the board of directors.
Plan, direct, or coordinate operational activities, staff,
and volunteers of the Chamber.
Essential
Functions: Plan,
implement, monitor, and control policies, plans, objectives, and
activities to accomplish the strategic objectives set by the board
of directors of the Chamber.
Plan, direct and
coordinate operational activities, staff, and volunteers to meet
organizational objectives and members’ needs.
Develop and recommend
to the board of directors financial plans for the Chamber including
annual operational budgets. Then
implement, monitor, and manage operations to accomplish financial
goals.
Participate in
setting policy, strategy, and objectives for the organization as
ex-officio member of the Chamber’s governing board of directors.
Regularly report to
the board of directors on the operations of the organization.
Detailed
Duties:
1.
Action Plan
A.
Guides the development of the
Chamber
’s overall
Action Plan and is responsible for directing and
implementing, with the aid of staff and volunteers
the “plan” including all policies adopted by the
Board of Directors
.
2.
Committees/Task Forces
A.
Supervises or delegates supervision and
management of all committees and task forces.
B.
Selects qualified personnel as committee liaisons
and directs processing of appointments to
committees.
C.
Directs and organizes specific projects for
committees, plans and arranges meetings,
supervises the preparation of notices, reports,
minutes and other needed materials.
D.
Reviews proposals or projects originating in
committees and elsewhere, and recommends proper
committee assignments if needed.
E.
Assists in formulating short term and long range
goals to coordinate the work of committees, staff,
divisions or departments which implement the
goals.
3.
Policy
A.
In consultation with the Board of Directors, the
President shall develop long range plans and
policies for achievement of all Chamber goals.
B.
Places policies on agenda for board action,
including recommendations as appropriate.

C.
Responsible for completion of Board policy and
procedures.
D.
Establishes administrative policies and procedures
for office and membership functions.
4.
Personnel
A.
Recruits, hires, terminates and trains staff and
administers an effective personnel program which
includes job descriptions, performance standards,
performance appraisals and salary administration.
B.
Establishes the organizational structure for the
office and the related staffing structure.
C.
Responsible for Board orientation and the
development of materials for the orientation
program.
5.
Finance
A.
Prepare the annual budget for
approval by the Board of Directors
B.
Responsible for adherence to budgetary guidelines
and approving all expenditures.
C.
Organizes the preparation of the monthly financial
statements and other financial information as
requested by the Board of Directors.
D.
Responsible for developing proper financial records
for members, including proper billing, recording of
dues and all other revenues; and maintains current
membership files and other information for proper
correspondence.
6.
Membership and Public Relations
A.
Develops and supervises an effective program for
membership development and membership services.
B.
Maintains effective internal and external public
relations with the membership.
C.
Develops and maintains a publication program
which is responsive to the needs of the
membership.
D.
Serves as spokesperson for the
Chamber
in
conjunction with the Chairman of the Board.
7.
Professional Ethics
A.
Ensures the legal integrity of the
Chamber
and the
highest degree of personal and professional ethics at
all times, including confidentiality of private
information.
Relationships: Regular contact with
the
Board of Directors
and its committees and task forces on policy matters and other
issues as appropriate. Maintains
personal contact with local, regional, state and national
organizations and the general membership to the greatest degree
possible. Maintains
appropriate relationships with government, public service
organizations and vendors to enhance the image of the Chamber and
the attainment of its objectives.

Qualifications and Characteristics:

Builds relationships by bringing people together to reach
shared goals. Interested
and skilled in social and business interactions and relationships.
Promoter: Understand
businesses in Red Wing by meeting the people who run them, work
there and shop there. Be a vocal and visible force to promote the
Chamber, its members, and all local businesses in our community and
outside.
Advocate: Represent all members by reaching out and understanding
their needs, working to develop consensus positions when possible
and taking an active role in the community to represent those
positions. When consensus is not possible, serve as a credible
resource of impartial information.
Enterprising Business Manager: Lead and manage the small business of
the Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce, implementing new and enhanced
strategies for membership growth and program development that ensure
fiscal stability. Should
have five or more years of experience leading and managing a
business or non-profit organization.

Communications: Ability to communicate effectively
verbally and in writing to wide variety of individuals and groups.

presented verbally. Reads
and comprehends complex written information and ideas.

Effectively gathers appropriate information and comes to
effective and timely conclusions.
Able to identify and consider various courses of action and
choose the most appropriate one.

Uses logic and reason to identify and gather information
about complex problems in a timely fashion. Able to develop and
evaluate strengths and weaknesses of various options and implement
effective solutions.
Financial Business Management:
Able to effectively manage financial aspects of the
organization. Planning
and implementing practices and programs that effectively generate
revenues in excess of expenses.
Education: Bachelors
degree in business or closely related field or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
