• Overnight Highway 61 Detours--April 10, 11 & 12

    April 09, 2018
Three Overnight Highway 61 Detours for Demolition Work Planned in Red Wing—April 10, 11 & 12—10PM-6AM
Motorists on Highway 61 near the Highway 63/ Eisenhower Bridge in Red Wing will be detoured three nights, April 10, 11 & 12 as construction crews demolish and remove the remainder of the slip ramp bridge over Highway 61. The Highway 61 detour will be from 10PM to 6AM each night. Traffic on Highway 61 will be closed during that eight-hour period, and will reopen in time for morning commuter and daily traffic.
The Highway 63/Eisenhower Bridge will remain open during this work. The work is only expected to affect Highway 61. However, motorists traveling to or from downtown Red Wing will need to use the Highway 61 detour since the new buttonhook has been opened and drivers will not be able to go underneath the Highway 61 bridge.
An earlier portion of the slip ramp was removed to install a temporary bridge. Motorists will use the temporary bridge, which opened to traffic on March 30. The temporary bridge over Highway 61 connects to the new button hook signalized intersection with Highway 61.
The detour route will take northbound Highway 61 traffic on Goodhue County Road 21/Flower Valley Road west to Highway 58, and then travel north on Highway 58 into Red Wing. Southbound motorists will follow the route in reverse. Traffic using the Hwy 63/Eisenhower Bridge to/from downtown Red Wing will need to use the detour because of the slip ramp’s closure and demolition impacts to Highway 61 traffic. A map of the detour can be found at the MnDOT project website at
