Nov. 3 public open house scheduled for Highway 63 Red Wing Bridge Project

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The public is invited to an open house, Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Red Wing Public Library to learn more about construction schedule information for the Red Wing Bridge, and other project developments, according to the Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of transportation.

The open house is from 5 to 7 p.m. with a presentation scheduled at 5:30 p.m. The two-hour open house allows visitors to come and go. They can talk with project staff during the open house to ask questions, address concerns and learn more about the project. The gathering is in the Foot Room of the library, 225 East Ave., Red Wing, MN 55066.

MnDOT is working on finalizing the design of the project along with developing construction staging and timing details.  The aesthetics for the project are taking shape and the right-of-way acquisition process is underway.  The final design of the project will be wrapping up late 2016, with the project still on schedule to begin construction in the spring of 2017.

The project will replace the existing Highway 63 Eisenhower Bridge over the Mississippi River with a new bridge. In addition, the Wisconsin and Minnesota bridge approaches will be improved. The project will construct a jug handle intersection on Highway 63 at 825th St. on the Wisconsin approach. Improvements on the Minnesota approach include reconfiguration of the approach roadways into a buttonhook intersection with a slip ramp into downtown Red Wing, along with replacement of the Highway 63 bridge over Highway 61.

Information from the public open house will be made available on the project website. The meeting is being held at an accessible location.
