May 3--Public Open House scheduled for Highway 63 Red Wing Bridge Project

RED WING, MN. – The public is invited to an open house, Wednesday, May 3 at the Red Wing Public Library to learn about the new Red Wing Bridge construction schedule and community effects, according to the Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of transportation.

The open house is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a presentation scheduled at 5:30 p.m. The two-hour open house allows visitors to come and go. They can talk with engineers and other project members from MnDOT, WisDOT and the city of Red Wing during the open house to ask questions, address concerns and learn more about the project. The gathering is in the Foot Room of the library, 225 East Ave., Red Wing, MN 55066.

The new Red Wing Mississippi River bridge will replace the Highway 63/Eisenhower Bridge, a vital connection between Minnesota and Wisconsin. Construction is scheduled to begin on May 5 and the overall project will be completed by August 2020. The project is a cooperative effort between MnDOT, WisDOT, and the city of Red Wing. The project also includes the replacement of the historic Highway 63 bridge over Highway 61 and reconstruction of the approach roadways in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Highway 63 and the Eisenhower Bridge will remain open during construction.

Once complete, motorists will have a new river crossing between Minnesota and Wisconsin, improved connections to Highway 61 and Highway 58 in Minnesota, better access in and out of Red Wing’s historic downtown district, and improved pedestrian and bicyclist crossings.
