    Lunch & Learn—Leading Through Unexpected Detours—October 9—Noon-1PM—Via Zoom
We live in a world of uncertainties, surrounded by a continual flow of personal and corporate challenges. It is a time when, more than ever, we need courageous leaders. We need men and women who will stay the course, especially those who have others looking to them to lead a business or nonprofit. Join the Chamber and our Sponsor First Choice Clinic for this informative session.

If we turned the clock back to January 1, 2020, who could have predicted what would unfold in 2020? A global pandemic. State-mandated closures of schools, businesses and churches. The CARES Act and PPP Loans. Deadly wildfires. Stock market crash. An impeachment hearing. Racial injustice protests. Sex trafficking. Murder hornets. Unemployment and businesses closing. A derecho storm in Iowa and another major hurricane by the Gulf of Mexico. The news has gone from bad to worse. We are all feeling covid-brain these days. How can leaders lead when they are dealing with compassion fatigue themselves?

According to Psychology Today, "Compassion fatigue used to be a problem that was most commonly seen among health care professionals. Because their work puts them in situations where they commonly see or hear about ongoing and sometimes unspeakable suffering, it is not unusual to see some of our most skilled, caring, and compassionate "helpers" fall victim to compassion fatigue. However, in today's world, where every tragedy is instantly broadcast directly into our living rooms (TV), laps (laptop), and/or hands (smartphone), compassion fatigue is no longer unique to certain professions."

Dr. Doug Stringer will be sharing time-tested leadership principles to help all of us who are leading through unexpected detours. He has helped with response and recovery to massive disasters, such as Hurricane Harvey, the largest national disaster in US history. Join us to be strengthened and encouraged so you can continue leading.
