Prasinus Nebula by Anna ToegelEvent Description:Opening on St. Patrick’s Day, Greenery, a new juried art exhibition, will be on view at the Red Wing Arts Association (RWAA) Depot Gallery through May 7. There will be 32 pieces on display – ranging from an animated video to paintings and photographs to mixed media sculpture selected from more 120 entries and 50 artists. Greenery explores the themes of new beginnings, vitality and/or the color green. “Greenery” is also the Pantone Color of the Year. Artworks will be available for purchase through the run of the show.
An Opening Night reception, free and open to the public, will be held on Friday, March 17 from 5-7 pm at the Depot Gallery, 418 Levee Street in Red Wing, and will feature a short talk by Christopher Atkins, Greenery’s juror and Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programs at the Minnesota Museum of American Art (the M) in Saint Paul.
RWAA Executive Director Mary Lee explained, “Greenery is the first show in the Depot Gallery to be juried by an outside curator/artist. Using a juror raises a show’s standards, elevates our standing among galleries and attracts more artists to the Gallery, while at the same time reaffirming the value of our local artists’ work. Greenery includes some of Red Wing’s finest artists and we’re also excited to welcome new talent to the Depot Gallery.”
Atkins said, “I was so honored to be asked by the Depot Gallery to be their first juror for a gallery show. There was an impressive collection of submissions to review and it was no easy task to make the selections. I hope that audiences will be inspired by the works in this exhibition and Minnesota’s thriving arts community.
